Kansas City's police board on Tuesday announced it needed more time to name the city’s 47th police chief. Mayor Quinton Lucas said the board wants to speak with past commanders and former colleagues of all the candidates, adding that the community has raised important questions during the chief search process. “I think it's important that we make sure all those are answered so that we can tell the people of Kansas City that we have the utmost confidence that our chief will be able to hit the ground running and starting the day that they're named,” he said Tuesday. Edwards said it is important that the board remains transparent moving forward, especially at Thursday’s 9 a.m. “I'd love to see, frankly, an announcement of a choice that has been decided so that person at day one can get started and bring a sense of healing to our city,” he said.

KCPD’s board of police commissioners will meet Thursday at 9 a.m.
